My "Bucket List"
As a child, I had always dreamed of owning my very own "Splitty" - in fact, it had always been my number one bucket list wish. Eight years ago I was one step closer to having that dream fulfilled when my husband gave me a “gift voucher”...after 5 years of searching we found my dream bus – an unrestored, original 1968 T1 Splitty from Brazil. It took another 3 years to restore it to its original shine until that magical day finally came when I could collect it.
The Restoration

Our Splitty played taxi for a convent of nuns - just like the one you see here. After 45 years of loyal service, we are convinced that everyone enjoying the bus today, somehow senses that the spirit of the old nuns lives on!
Our namesake, the Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa, was the obvious choice for a bus driven by nuns. From now on, our bus would be called, "Teresa"!
After a lengthy ocean crossing, she finally arrived – but in pretty bad shape. Nevertheless, a sticker on the front window claiming “Monjas” (Portuguese for "nuns”), the cross pendant hanging from the rearview mirror, and her touching story, convinced us – this had to be our bus!
Only one, torn bench remained. Now the bus has a beautiful dualtone cream and beige interior with elegant accents of chrome.
Sadly, the old radio didn't work. Now we have a modern Soundbox with Bluetooth technology to listen to your favourite songs.
means "Faith Warrior" in Portuguese – the nuns were on a mission!
means "Jesus loves you" – which gives you super powers, if you believe!
means "God is faithful" – there is a lot of truth in that. Without Him, Teresa would probably have landed up in a scrapyard.
A professional restoration from the ground up starts with a complete stripping down so that all rusty bits can either be treated, or replaced.
